The game of bocce is rather simple. Each bocce set consists of 4 balls of one color, 4 balls of a different color, and 1 pallino (marker). For beach bocce ball each team will have four balls (two balls per person).
A match is started when one player tosses the pallino. The pallino is a marker and the point of the game is to get your bocce balls as close to the pallino as possible. The same player that throws the pallino, draws a line in the sand and throws the the first bocce ball. The opposing team then throws one of their bocce balls. Whoever is furthest from the pallino will continue to throw until they are closer to the pallino or out of balls. You must be within and behind the line drawn in the sand during each throw.
After all teams have thrown their balls, points are given to the team that is closest to the pallino. One point is given for each ball that is closer to the pallino than the opposing team’s closest ball. Only one team can score during a match. In this picture the score would be two points for the team throwing red and zero points for the team throwing blue.
During the season, (1) one game consists of (5) matches or tosses of the pallino. The team with the most accumulated points in those (5) matches gets the win. You can play 1, 2, 3, or more matches a night. You do not have to play any additional matches unless both teams agree to play on.
Bocce balls can knock other balls or the pallino. When the pallino is knocked, the pallino is still active and live (it has only moved). Teams with girls may request that the pallino not be thrown too far from the line drawn in the sand. You can call a throw back if it is too long. You can measure distances of the balls to the pallino with a ruler or someones belt. If you need a unbiased eye just ask your neighbor to come take a look.
If you tied with the other team after 5 throws, you can break the tie by throwing 1 additional pallino toss. The team with the closest number of balls wins the game.

The 1 day tournament rules are very similar to the season except for a few important factors. The tournament is single elimination. If you lose you are out. Also, the scoring is based on the team that gets to 11 points first and you have to win by 2 points.
