Season Overview:
Bocce season starts on May 23rd, (Tuesday) just before Memorial Day, and goes past Labor Day during the long summer days. There is 1 pre-season practice week, 14 regular season weeks, 1 post-season practice week, and 1 all-day Saturday finals tournament totaling 16 consecutive weeks of bocce. As of now, this year’s Finals Tournament will be held on Sept.9th. (Saturday)
We are switching back to the traditional TUESDAY NIGHTS this year.
Bocce Nights:
For Practice nights and Regular Season nights, each team must sign-in on the bocce app to get a match and play. 85 to 90+ teams meet at 6:45 pm at the RED & WHITE BOCCE VAN in the North end of 1 Rose Ave Parking Lot. There your team gets matched up (see matchup sheet on the Van’s back door), you grab a set of balls, head to the sand, and throw a few games. After you return your balls to the van, you’ll log your scores on the bocce app online then head to The Waterfront Venice side patio to talk some shit or drown your sorrows. Rinse and Repeat for 16 weeks and that’s what we call Beach Bocce LA style.
Finals Tournament Overview:
The Bocce “March Madness” style Finals Tournament is Saturday, Sept. 9th. This is an all-day tourney from 10 am for early bracket teams and 12 pm for main bracket teams. The tourney goes to 6:30 pm on the sand followed by a Finals Party at The Waterfront Venice from approx. 6:30pm to 9:30pm. For more tourney details see the FINALS TOURNEY tab above.

Having commitment issues?
We understand that teams in our league are busy working people with sometimes unpredictable schedules. If you can’t make it every week not to worry. We structure the league knowing everyone can’t make it every night. So, don’t let that hold you back from joining the league. In our bocce league we have a rule that makes life much easier for all you commitment phobes.
The 50% Rule
This rule means your team can miss 50% of the season’s games (up to 7 games) before it negatively effects your finals tourney ranking. During the season you can play with 50% of your team or with a ringer, meaning if your partner can’t make it you can play solo or bring a stand-in player for that week.
Don’t jeopardize your tourney ranking by missing more than 7 weeks.
Everyone can play in Finals
If you show up less than 50% of the time, not to worry! Remember, that you can still play in the finals tourney but your ranking drops below any other team that logged more than 50% attendance.
Season dues costs $125 per team to join the league (there are 2 people to a team). This covers league expenses including (2) bocce t-shirts with the rest going to our finals tourney & party.
Paying Dues:
After you register and your team is approved you will be sent an email instructing you to pay all dues online via PayPal. Payment of dues is required immediately for your team to be included in the match-ups. Please handle your business up front, secure your team’s spot in the league and stay on the nice list. If you are a team of 3 players and you all want a t-shirt and will all attend the finals tourney an additional $45 per extra player in dues is required.
What does it cover?:
The above dues cover league expenses including (2) bocce t-shirts per team with the rest going to our finals tourney & a downright DOPE members only Finals Party. Party includes Dinner + Drinks plus a Trophy and cash prizes presentation for the 1st ($500), 2nd ($300), 3rd ($200) place teams and Best Costume ($100) team.Additional bragging rights and trophies for Rookie of the year, Best Team Name, Best Team Spirit, and “Baddest Baller” for the worst season record with be handed out as well.
Go Online to get a Match
You will find that in the Bocce League the Bocce APP is your best friend and will allow you to get matched up each week and also allows you to log your scores after you play.
Sign-In Every Week:
We make it simple to get a match each week when you sign in to play. Weekly Bocce matches are created via the Bocce APP online and require that your team sign in every week. If you don’t sign in you will not be matched up. Soooo… YOU MUST go online and Sign in “YES” to get a match. If your team is not playing you still have to Sign in “NO” so we know you’re not showing up.
Say it together with me now… Choose “YES” or “NO”. Don’t just show up or leave us hanging.
Log Your Scores:
YOU MUST also log your scores in the Bocce APP online every week. If you don’t log scores I can’t track your attendance and adjust ranking for the tourney. If you play 3 matches and win 2 of them you should go online and log scores (ie..2 wins & 1 loss). As a backup and rule of thumb please also write your scores on the sign in sheet on the van door when you return your set of balls.
Rankings:
Logging your scores allows you to be ranked in the league. It accomplishes two things. 1) By logging your scores I know each week you have checked off 1 of the 7 minimum weeks toward not dropping below all 50% + teams for the tournament. 2) The more you win the higher your ranking and thus the better seed you will receive for the Finals Tournament. If you don’t log in when you win it doesn’t count.
Team Pride
This part of the Bocce League is all about TEAM PRIDE. Each year teams put it all on the sand to outdo their creative masterpieces from last season. I hope you all have been knitting, embroidering, hot gluing, and double stitching your 2023 team costumes for the season opener. Teams that wear their costume all year help their chances of winning that prize money in September.
Best Costume: Trophy + $100 prize money
If you noticed, part of the League Dues, go to a badass trophy and $100 bucks to the best costume during the Finals Tourney. Yeah, maybe I should have led with that. Creative juices are in our DNA and it’s time to get your creative on. We wanna see your team bring it this year. The more you wear the costume the better the chances of winning the votes of other teams.
Costume Questions:
- Will there be more than two “Sister Wives” this year?
- Will “Chvrch of Bocce” Father Tim wear the collar each week?
- Will “Stop Touching My Balls” start touching balls?
- Does “8==D~~(. Y .)” have anything left in the tank?
Who’s in the League?
The Los Angeles Beach Bocce Ball League was created as a way to get LA’s advertising and entertainment industry’s like-minded creative humans together at the beach. What’s better than promising 16 weeks of toes in the sand, coveted sunsets, and the chance to make life-long friendships over a weekly Tuesday night of tossing bocce followed by a beer or two at the the Waterfront.
Beach Bocce Ball has a mysterious way of pushing past the boundaries of LA/Hollywood social protocols as all of that fades away once you get that first pallina toss out of the way and start trash talking your opponent. Bocce is not just for grandpa anymore as 90+ teams of 2 are headed to the beach this summer. Check out this NY Times article about our league in 2007.

If you are in the LA ad or entertainment world and want to join the best league you could ever imagine, click the Register button on the home page and we will see you in the sand.
Meet at the Red & White Van:
Our league meets where Rose Avenue meets the Venice Boardwalk near the Santa Monica / Venice boarder. 85 to 90+ teams meet-up at 6:45pm at the WHITE BOCCE VAN in the North end of 1 Rose Ave Parking Lot. League members skateboard, bike, walk or drive and in and park in the parking lot. ($5 fee) It’s always best to get to bocce early but if you are running late, please text or call Jerry to make sure we keep your matchup. If you are later than 7:05pm most likely your match will be given away. Walk on up to the Van, check out the matchup on the back door of the Van and yell out your opponent’s team name to connect before heading to the sand.
Drink at The Waterfront Venice:
We will be meeting on the side outdoor patio in the booths and standing table area at The Waterfront Venice this year. Let the host or wait staff know you are part of the Bocce League. They will be expecting you.
